• Clearwater/Lake Maria KOA — Up by Clearwater off I-94, with the full amenities-and-pool setup that keeps younger kids happy on the days you’re not at the lake.

Buffalo Days in mid-June packs downtown and the park, so that weekend books out fast — reserve early if that’s your target. September is my personal favorite: the beach crowds thin out, the bugs ease off, and Central Minnesota gives you those crisp blue-sky afternoons that are perfect for a lake day without the July humidity. Make a Bigger Trip Out of the Buffalo Area

You’re a short run from Montissippi County Park along the Mississippi up by Monticello, Lake Rebecca Park Reserve toward Rockford, and the trails at Crow-Hassan Park Reserve. Shoppers can hit the Albertville Premium Outlets right off I-94, and if you want a big-city day, downtown Minneapolis and Mall of America are about an hour southeast.
